Stranglehold est un groupe originaire de Boston formé en 1982. Le groupe sonnait très punk anglais de l'époque, genre Buzzcocks ou Stiff Little Fingers. Malgré de nombreuses tournées en compagnie de The Freeze, F.U.'s, Circle Jerks, Anti-Nowhere League, Suicidal Tendencies, The Effigies, Dr Know, Iron Cross, Marginal Man, 45 Grave, TSOL, Dogmatics, Outlets, DYS etc. le groupe tombe rapidement dans l'oubli, ceci dû en bonne partie aux faibles tirages de ses albums par X-Claim, le label ne trouvant pas leur sonorité assez dure pour la scène de Boston devenue résolument hardcore.
Chris Doherty, membre de Jerry's Kids et de Gang Green, a fait partie du groupe en tant que guitariste. Stranglehold splite fin 84, Rich McKenzie et Jonathan Roberts créent ensuite le groupe The Oysters.

Stranglehold were a Punk band from Boston. They started in 1982 and broke up in 1984,in between they released one 12 inch and one 45 rpm for Taang! Records, they toured the country with The F.U.'s who they shared a practice space with and also played with the likes of the Circle Jerks, Suicidal Tendencies, Dr Know,Iron Cross, Marginal Man, 45 Grave, TSOL...
Criminally overlooked punk band, one of the first TAANG! bands, way before their time and underappreciated due to the iron fisted grip that HC had on the Boston music scene.
